August 24, 2011
As hurricane Irene gets closer to New England we will post updates concerning Malletts Bay. The latest information from Vermont Emergency Management is that Sunday and Monday may be a heavy rain and high wind event. Anyone boating this weekend should pay attention to developing bad weather conditions. Also please check and adjust your lines and fenders. It would be a good idea to remove your dinghy and motor, or jetski from between the dock or other boats. If you have extra dock lines please use them. At Champlain Marina we use bow pilings to help secure boats. As the lake level drops the lines must be lowered on the poles. The lines should be more or less at deck level. We wil have staff available to assist you in making these adjustments.
Champlain Marina
Mid July Update
Lake level 97.5
Water temperature 70 F
We have had great weather, for the most part, since opening the docks in mid – June. After all the hard work our staff put in getting the Marina functional as well as launching everyone, it is rewarding to see so many people boating.
Over the next few years you will begin to see some changes at the Marina. Four years ago we submitted an application to various agencies for a 16-boat expansion. This month we are contracting w/ Radisson Design to fabricate the new docks. They will be delivered by early September, and we will begin installing them as time and weather permits. We are in the process of capturing all the fingers on B and C dock with pilings ( A and D were done many years ago). This will go a long way in making the docks more secure in high water (as we had this spring) and during high winds that we inevitably get during the season. We are making short term plans to improve access to some of the dock system during high water by either buying or renting temporary decks. We are considering other projects, such as raising the elevation of the electrical service to the dock, and a major overhaul to the store and office.
…There are increasing concerns regarding electric shock drowning in Marinas. The marina industry is responding by installing electronic current detectors to monitor for stray current problems. Champlain Marina is concerned about this issue. We are installing this equipment to help protect our Marina customers from this dangerous phenomena by testing for it. We will be posting more information about this equipment in the near future. Swimming in Marinas is never recommended, however such activity is difficult to enforce…
This Sunday, July17, 2011 from 3:00 – 5:00 the Directors and Staff will be cooking burgers, dogs, and sausage and other tasty food. There will be door prizes, and you must be present to win. It would be a good time to meet all the old customers as well as new ones ( and their families)
Mark your calendars , August 13, 2011 is the Lobster Fest. See Gail Nerber for details.
The Marina, after 4 years of permitting for the dock expansion, and surviving unusually high spring lake level, is moving forward with some projects that will enhance the operation. The Directors and Management welcome your input. If you have any ideas or questions, don’t hesitate to let them know. We strive to maintain the highest quality facility and quality of service that we can because our customers are our most important asset. Please share any ideas with us.

Champlain Marina Update
June 3, 2011
11:00 A.M. lake level 102.41
After several false starts the water began receding and the current weather forecast is for relatively dry weather. We are able to launch powerboats that have dockage arrangements at other Marinas. At the 102 foot lake level we can launch sailboats thet have dockage or mooring arrangements at other Marinas.
Champlain Marina docks are not available yet. Also, the sewage pump out and fuel system are temporarily unavailable.
Due to the unusual circumstances this year we ask boat owners to be present at launch. It's helpful if you have lines and fenders rigged, check for leaks, and start and move your boat. With your help and co-operation our staff can focus on boat moving and launching. We will accommodate your schedule, weather permitting. Weekend launching will be available.
We will post another update as we get closer to opening Champlain Marina's docks. For our Storage customers that keep boats at the Moorings, Marina at Marble Island, MBBC, LCYC, Hazelett Marina, or any other facility that's open please schedule your launch now!

High Lake Level info from NOAA this morning
THE LAKE CHAMPLAIN LAKE AS OF 7:45 AM EDT SUNDAY...LAKE CHAMPLAIN HAS LEVELED OFF AND WILL BEGIN A SLOW RECESSION. AT THE KING STREET FERRY DOCK IN BURLINGTON WAS 103.14 FEET...AND THE WATER TEMPERATURE WAS 40 DEGREES.
FOR BOATERS...MANY HAZARDS SUCH AS BREAKWATER AND OTHER ROCKS OR OBSTRUCTIONS MAY BE OBSCURED BY THE HIGH WATER LEVELS. IN ADDITION...HIGH FLOW FROM RIVERS OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS HAS DELIVERED PLENTY OF DEBRIS INTO THE LAKE. LASTLY...THE LAKE TEMPERATURE IS ONLY IN THE UPPER 30S. DUE TO ALL OF THE ABOVE FACTORS...BOATING IS DISCOURAGED AT THIS TIME.
LAUNCHING:
Champlain Marina is unable to launch due to high water. As the Lake level begins to recede we will have periodic updates as to our ability to safely launch your boat. We are prepared to launch 7 days a week, during daylight hours when the water level situation permits. Please check your "marina's" ability to take your boat, and notify us when they ( and you) are ready.
FUELING:
We are unable to provide marine fuel at this time. Our fuel system has NOT been compromised or contaminated. High lake level prohibits getting electricity to the system. GOOD NEWS.. we will have 91 octane NON_ETHANOL fuel this season.
PUMP OUT:
We are unable to provide pumpouts for the same reason we can't provide fuel.
CHAMPLAIN MARINA DOCKAGE:
By the end of this week our docks will be secure. HOWEVER, access to them will be limited (by boat) and they will not have water or electricity.
We will update this notice every few days. Please stop by if you have any questions, we are open seven days a week.
Thank You

A reminder: When sanding or scraping your boat you must use a ground tarp. The Marina has them in the store, or you can pick one up at the hardware store. We recycle white shrinkwrap. Please put the bundle in front of your boat, we will place in the large roll off dumpster. We also recycle waste oil and batteries. If you have any questions please see Don, Rob, Derrick or Bruce

CHAMPLAIN MARINA, Inc.
In the summer of 1980 Bob Charland was dreaming on his boat docked at the Champlain Marina and conceived the idea of bringing together a number of boaters to purchase Champlain Marina from owner Ken Lonergan whose interest in selling was well known. Several boaters were enthusiastic about investing some money to assure themselves of hassle-free docking and storing their boats in the years to come. By the Fall of 1980 a core group had been formed and the Marina was purchased and the Champlain Club, Ltd., was organized. The name was later changed to Champlain Marina, Inc., to more accurately reflect its image as a public marina rather than a private club.
The new owners set to work immediately after the purchase, to improve the marina and its docks. Revenues from the Marina were reinvested in the facility. Over the years a new septic system was installed, the docks were replaced, the entire marina facility was landscaped, the parking lot was graded, Norton’s Pier was upgraded, the travel-lift area was rebuilt, the travel-lift was replaced, the Quonset Hut was converted from a mud-floored storage area to a large, airy community room, the Mary Patrick Activity Room, with kitchen, 2 bathrooms and a laundry room. Protecting the Lake and maintaining a safe, clean and friendly Marina has always been a priority for the owners, the shareholders. Of the original 50 shareholders, currently 5 are still actively involved in boating at the Marina.
